We made a flying visit to the UK Audio show last month where six of our customers were exhibiting.
Quested had teamed up with Ultrafide Audio and were launching the first two models from their Olympian Hifi series. It's been about 25 years since I last listened to a pair of Quested Hifi speakers. Some of you may remember that Roger Quested designed some Hifi speakers a long time ago and I grew up with a pair in my lounge. These looked nothing like the Olympian speakers which flaunted some very cool patterned veneers but the uniquely clear, balanced Quested sound was evident in both. At one point Michael Jackson's Speed Demon was played and I was immediately transported back to my living room with Dad when we both used to listen to 'Bad' a lot on his Quested speakers. It's no surprise that Quested has maintained an international reputation for decades.
Along the corridor, we spotted Kerr Acoustic who was demonstrating his K200s.
We had the pleasure of listening to these little beasts at Volt HQ a few months earlier so it was good to hear them in a larger space. What, in my humble opinion, makes them unique is the depth and clarity of bass that these speakers have. They really are worth listening to.
Dorset-based, Moor AMPS make rather splendid amplifiers.
However this year they launched the Ascalon-8 speakers at the Bristol Hifi show in their brand blue this was the first time they had revealed the Ascalon-8 in this beautiful oak veneer. The design is simple and stylish - ideal for the home. I didn't manage to contain my compliments about how clear the midrange is and what a beautiful tone they have. You may notice the flat front on the Volt midrange.....more on that very soon.
The IAS Beaulieu was first developed by David Hall, pictured above with Steve, and the late Alan Willis. David and Alan were some of Volt's earliest customers so it was wonderful to meet David at the UK Audio Show.
The IAS Beaulieu has achieved a somewhat legendary status amongst its original owners and as Volt had supplied the original mid/bass driver, we were happy to revive the original specification for Carl Beckwith who, working in collaboration with David Hall has developed the new IAS Beaulieu 40R (pictured above). It was evident that no expense had been spared in reimagining this system; other high-end components, Seas, Accuton, and Dueland all feature within the elegant cabinet. There is an extensive description of the Beaulieu 40R here: https://iasloudspeakers.co.uk/a-new-reference/
So that's a little coverage of four of the six customers at the UK Audio Show. We work with the other two on a confidential basis so I'll conclude this article on that note of mystery!
